MLA Imo announces free rice

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 25, 2020: While people are facing a difficult situation due to Covid-19 threat MLA of Sagolband Assembly Constituency, RK Imo Singh on Manipur new year’s day announced to distribute rice free of cost in his constituency.

“I would like to announce that Sagolband will receive Rice totally Free for another extra month (i.e. for March) to those people who are entitled to avail the benefits under NFSA (National Food Security Act). I will bear the cost personally which would be around Rs 4/5 lakh, which is my duty for the people of Sagolband during such tough times,” Imo said in a press release.

He said the last few days have been tough for everyone across the country including Manipur. With a total Lockdown across India for the next 21 days due to the Corona virus pandemic, it is certainly going to be a testing moment for all citizens, all the more for the poor and needy ones, he added.

State government has announced several measures including giving free rice for the month of April under National Food under NFSA, the legislator said.

He said he have also donated a sum of Rs 50,000 from his salary for the state.

“As a Legislator representing the constituency of Sagolband, I am more duty bound to oversee the welfare of the people of the Constituency,” he said.

All agents have to ensure that these benefits reaches the people wit due diligence, he added.

He urged the government to take care of water scarcity in Imphal city, which the people are facing the brunt.

He requested everyone not to venture out during this lockdown period.

“Every life is important, and God has given us an opportunity to be with our family and loved ones by staying at home. This is a war upon humanity and we can only win by breaking the chain which is only possible by social/physical distancing,” Imo said.

“Let the government do its job, let us also do our duty and take care of our families. I also request the government to take up all measures to ensure the safety of every person by leaving no stone unturned. All essential items should be made available to the public,” he added

He wished the people of Manipur a very happy “Sajibu Nong-ma Panba Chelraoba”.
