PM greets people on the occasion of Cheiraoba

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 25, 2020: Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has greeted the people of Manipur on the occasion of Sajibu Cheiraoba, New Year festival of Manipur, as he greets people on various festivals across the country on Wednesday.

In a series of tweets PM said, “We are celebrating various festivals across India and also the start of a New Year as per our traditional calendar. Greetings on Ugadi, Gudi Padava, Navreh and Sajibu Cheiraoba. May these auspicious occasions bring good health, happiness and prosperity in our lives. We are marking these festivals at a time when our nation is battling the Covid-19 menace. The celebrations will not be like they are usually but they will strengthen our resolve to overcome our circumstances. May we keep working to fight Covid-19 together.

Amid lockdown Manipur natives celebrate the beginning of new year praying the almighty to overcome difficulties in the world.

People offer fruits and vegetables, collected in their capacity during the lock down, to the almighty for sound health and prosperity.

“This year we celebrate the festival in this alarming situation. Hope we celebrate the festival with pomp and gaiety next year,” an Imphal resident told Pothashang.

On the occasion of Cheiraoba family members dine together with varieties of cuisines served. This festival strengthen the bond of relationship between brothers and sisters. People climb hills on this day, meet friends at festival venues like Thabal Chongba (traditional group dance for youth). “This time families celebrate the new year’s day in solitude,” he added.
