135 lockdown violators arrested in Imphal West

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 31, 2020: As a part of security measures taken up by Imphal West District Police in order to enforce the total lockdown and to prevent the spread of Novel Corona virus in the state, 135 persons were arrested on Tuesday under 109 CrPC, and produced before Executive Magistrates by registering 15 non FIR cases at different police stations of Imphal West district for violating the total lockdown.

A fine of Rs 4500 was imposed and a total of 119 vehicles were also detained. District Police Imphal West appeals to maintain order, social distancing while coming to purchase from retail shops.

For Wednesday retail shops along Uripok Kangchup Road and all areas of Imphal West north of it up to Sekmai selling essential commodities and vegetables, are allowed to open from 6.00 am to 11 am, Imphal West Police superintendent Meghachandra said on Tuesday.

The rest of the retail shops selling the same items south of it upto Mayang Imphal sub- division shall be allowed to open from noon to 5 pm. It will remain the same on three days in a week i.e. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

One person from one family will be allowed to come to purchase in the nearest shops in his locality only and no vehicle shall be allowed. General public is requested to maintain social distance and unnecessary movement.

Further it is observed that retail shop is not well defined in Manipur. Particularly in Imphal almost every house facing the road or IV Road opens a retail shop. So such ill defined retail shops are numerous. If all such shops take permit to purchase articles from wholesale shops, it will be a big task and it will be very difficult to make them accountable, Meghachandra said.

Most retail shops are not open on market days also. So chance of illegal hoardings is high if not regulated. Therefore, local clubs and CSOs are requested to identify some suitable locations and shops which can be given permit as retail shops. It will reduce pilferage of scarce items, and increase accountability particularly in the present situation. If the designated retail shops are identified then all the items taken from Wholesale shops can be checked and compared with what the retail shops sell to public, he added.

Authorities including Police can also regulate properly. General public, local clubs and CSOs were  appealed to suggest convenient retail shops in each locality by contacting  SP Imphal West : 9612759705, additional SP L&O : 9612007472, SDPO Imphal : 8787533297 and OC Imphal PS : 936026170.
