First Covid-19 positive patients in Manipur tests negative, needs another test

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 4, 2020: First Covid-19 positive person in Manipur has been tested negative of the disease on Saturday and another test is required after 24 hours to be conducted on Monday.

Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) director Th. Bimo said this to local media.

He said as her health condition was improving well as new test was conducted and resulted negative. “If she is found negative of the test again after 24 hours, a decision will be taken for discharge,” the director added.

However, in a status update by Covid-19 of the state medical directorate on Saturday the number of Covid-19 positive case remained to two.

The 37 co-passengers of first Covid-19 positive case in Manipur were referred for Covid-19 test to Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and JNIMS on Saturday.

A press release from Covid-19 Common  Control Room, Manipur said, “All the 37  high risk co-passengers of the first Covid-19 positive person of Air Asia flight dated March 21 are completing  14 days of facility quarantine and they are being referred to RIMS  and JNIMS for mandatory testing today (Saturday)”.

The 23 year old girl from Thangmeiband Lourung Purel Leikai, who had returned from England tested positive for Covid-19 on March 24. She was the first Covid-19 positive case in Manipur and in the North East.

The state’s second Covid-19 positive case emerged from Lilong area and he happened to be a participant in a religious congregation held at Nizamuddin in Delhi.

The press release also said the test result of the 11 family members of Lilong Covid-19 patient who were tested for Covid-19 at RIMS were found negative.
