Territorial integrity will be protected at any cost: CM Biren Singh

Chief minister Ningthombam Biren today assured of safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur unaffected by the framework agreement signed between the Naga militant group, NSCN IM and the government of India.
“Territorial integrity is important than my soul; as a chief minister I will protect the territorial integrity of Manipur at any cost. It is my commitment” said Biren Singh.
Biren Singh said the central leaders had made a clear cut clarification after the NSCN IM leader Thuingaleng Muivah had asserted of possible Naga Integration as par the framework agreement.
Biren Singh was about to leave for Delhi today while he was answering the reporters for the purpose of his first visit to Delhi as a chief minister.
Saying that the visit was a courtesy call the chief minister said, “I will put up the issues that we are right now facing in the state and the Prime Minister is keen to solve the problems.”
The chief minister was associated with PWD minister Th. Biswajit, who said they will apprise the Prime Ministers and central leaders on fulfilling the promises made to the people.
There has been apprehension from the people after the NSCN-IM general secretary Th. Muivah announced at the group’s camp Hebron in Nagaland that the ‘Framework Agreement’ signed with the centre two years back has recognised NSCN-IM’s demand for territorial integration of all Naga inhabited areas in the region.

“The historic ‘Framework Agreement’ recognizes the unique history, the identity, the sovereignty and the territories of the Nagas. It also recognizes the legitimate right of the Nagas to integrate all Naga territories” said Muivah said when he addressed to NSCN-IM cadres at Hebron, the group’s headquarters in Nagaland on its 38th Republic Day few days back.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his election campaign speech at Imphal last month assured the people of Manipur that the Naga accord does not contain anything that would affect the territorial integrity of the state.

NSCN IM has been demanding formation of a sovereign greater Nagaland by uniting all the Naga inhabited regions. Assam and Arunachal Pradesh which also neighbours Nagaland has Naga inhabitants within their territories. The NSCN-IM’s ‘Greater Nagalim’ map also includes parts of Myanmar, which borders Nagaland on its east.

Assam’s chief minister Sarbanand Sanowal yesterday stated that his government will not compromise on territorial integrity.
