Man at rehabilitation centre found death

Wife decry over the alleged killing of her husband after one month he was admitted to New Light De-Addiction Centre in Senapati.

Konjengbam Ongbi Kusum wife of the deceased Konjengbam David Meitei, 35 said her husband was informed to have found death yesterday, the day he completes one month of staying at the rehabilitation centre. “My husband was murdered, there were bruised marks on his body; I want justice”, added Kusum.

The family and relatives confirmed the death of David at 2:00 pm yesterday from the Lamshang police station. Police was informed ahead of informing the police, said a neighbour while talking to the reporters.

David was found death about 200 meters away from the rehabilitation centre. Yesterday at about 5: 00 am Kusum was called on the phone by a staff of the centre that David ran away from the rehabilitation centre along with one inmate from Moreh.

Demanding justice over the death of David who was at the rehabilitation centre for rehabilitation of his alcoholic habit, family, relatives and people staged a sit-in in front of the RIMS complex.

A committee against the alleged killing of David was formed which decided not to receive the death body until the real fact and justice was brought.

The body of the deceased was kept at RIMS mortuary. David was resident of Uripok Haorongbam Leikai, Imphal West.

He was survived by his wife and two little sons aged nine and five. Kumsum earns her living by opening a local snacks vendor at the gate of her residence.

Shops around the protest area remained closed in support of the protest while the pharmacies pull down half the shutter to show solidarity to the protest.
