MSF shuts down pharmacy selling expired drugs

Imphal, May 10: Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) today closed down a pharmacy at Thangal Keithel, near Kastury Bridge for selling expired medicine.

Talking to reporters general secretary, Wanglemba Khaba said that the student body received a complaint from one Konsam Ibomcha (40) about an expiry medicine (insulin) which he bought from Rishika Medicos at Thangal Keithel yesterday evening.

When the insulin prescribed by the doctor was injected he found himself in obnoxious condition. The medicine was found expired.

The diabetes patient went again this morning to the same pharmacy to fetch insulin and he was given again given an expired one.

He put the matter to the MSF and the MSF conducted a raid in the pharmacy and found several other expired medicines which were sold in the pharmacy.

Later, the MSF closed down the pharmacy and appealed the concern authority to look into the matters. At least 34 types of expired medicines were recovered from the pharmacy.
