Police seizes drug worth over Rs. 3 crore

A combined team of Moreh police commando and 12 Assam Rifles – F Coy (Khudengthabi) seized contraband drugs – Brown Sugar, Heroin and World is Yours (WY) tablets from four traffickers at Kwatha Junction, yesterday.

Police apprehended five persons including two women and a young boy who were involved in the drug trafficking.

Police says the combined team launched an operation under the supervision of Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, superintendant of police, Tengnoupal towards Kwatha Junction. The team detained a juvenile who was using the jungle route carrying a backpack and later detained a lady while proceeding a little ahead in the same route. Based on the information given by them the police were able to fetch two others, a male and a female in an autorickshaw who were supposed to ferry the package till Churchandpur. The police were also able to apprehend the person who was sending the drug items.

The team found 127 gms of brown sugar, 509 gms of heroin grade 1and 6970 WY tablets. The approximate value of the items would be approximately Rs. 3 crore and 39 lakhs approximately in the international market, says the police.

The team apprehended five of them were Thenkhojam Gangte (36), Ms. Liam Haokip (35) and Ms. Domjahat Haokip (35) (F) hailing from Chikkim village, Moreh; Lekhothang Lhungdim (38) from Lhangkichoi Veng Moulhoi, Moreh; and the other was a juvenile of 14 years of age.

Thenkhojam Gangte was the man who was sending the drug from Moreh. Liam Haokip was the lady apprehended form the jungle. Lekhothang Lhungdim and Domjahat Haokip were those apprehended from the auto Rickshaw.

The seized contraband items and the apprehended persons were produced in front of the media at Tengnoupal police station, today.

Dr. Soibam Ibomcha thanked those in uniform for their contribution in nabbing the drug traffickers. He also thanked those who have cooperated the police. “I hope that people in different parts of the state will cooperate the police in future as in this case”, said Ibomcha.

He appealed not to let juveniles involve in drug trafficking and drug use. The apprehended juvenile will be produced to the Juvenile Board for further necessary action, said the senior police officer.
