CAW OF SERIOUS CONCERN TO GOVERNMENT: BIREN
Chief Minister Shri Nongthombam Biren Singh today observed in the House that his government considers Crimes Against Women with utmost seriousness and that the rape and attempted murder of a young girl at Senapati District yesterday is unfortunate.
Replying to a Calling Attention Motion raised by Opposition MLA Km. Ak. Mirabai Devi on the issue relating to the case, the Chief Minister who is also the leader of the House said, his government is trying its best to curb Crimes Against Women in the State.
The CM informed the House that the government has sent police authorities including IGP and DIG ranked officers in the district to expedite investigation of the case. He continued the police with assistance of the local NGOs and populace is putting all efforts to solve the case and book the culprits at the earliest.
Chief Minister Shri N. Biren also said that representatives of the government had visited the victim girl at the hospital where she is presently undergoing treatment and provided assistance to the family. He said the government will continue to provide all possible assistance to the girl and her family and even take her outside the State for treatment if the need arise.
Reiterating that the present government considers Crimes Against Women of any nature with all seriousness, the Chief Minister recounted that in the recent suicide case of a woman inside Andro Police Station, police personnel manning the Police Station were even suspended immediately.He further observed that accused in more than 90 percent of CAW cases have been booked according to the law.
The Chief Minister also expressed concerned on the degrading moral of the people and said the State seems to witness an increasing trend in the number of Crimes Against Women cases.
Despite of all the concern of the government, law has to take its own course to book the culprit, which takes time, he said before adding that the government has set up a fast track court in the State for cases relating to Crimes Against Women. He also expressed the need to frame a chargesheet with proper evidence so that the case against the culprit.
Welcoming a suggestion of MLA Km. Ak Mirabai to set up Fast-track courts in all districts to look into CAW cases, the Chief Minister said that the suggestion is indeed significant and will look into it in a short period of time.
