BISWAJIT CHAIRS MEETING TO REVIEW HANDLOOM AND HANDICRAFT SCHEMES IMPLEMENTATION

Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Thongam Biswajit Singh today chaired a monthly review meeting of Handloom and Handicraft department and discussed implementation of various schemes and requirements of the department with the officials of the department. The meeting was held this afternoon at the conference hall of the Minister’s New Secretariat office.

During the meeting, the Minister observed the need of the officials to regularly inspect the clusters under the department and ensure if they are functioning properly. He also said wide publicity should be conducted regarding issuance of yarn card and weavers I-Card.

Regarding implementation of the MUDRA Scheme, Director Shri Lamlee Kamei said the notice has been issued and that the process is already underway.

Stressing on the need to promote local handlooms and handicraft in all districts, Minister Biswajit also spoke on the need to set up district wise handloom and handicraft centres like emporiums. This will promote tourism as well, he added.

During the meeting, the Minister also discussed the conversion of Manipur Mechanize Dye House to Manipur Dyeing Institute. According to the department officials, once it is converted to an institution, it will impart training and formulation of project for implementation of Integrated Processing Development Scheme.

Other issues discussed including implementation of Cluster Development Project under the North Eastern Region Textile Promotion scheme, handicrafts schemes, apparel and garment making centre among others.

The attending officials also highlighted their grievances including lack of man-power, infrastructure etc.  The meeting was also attended by other officials of the department.
