PEOPLE RECALLS CHITTARANJAN

People paid homage to anti AFSPA crusader Pebam Chittaranjan who self immolated in August 2004 demanding repeal AFSPA.

He self immolated on August 15, while Independence Day was celebrating across the nation. He succumbed to burn on August 16.

Spearheaded by the Manipur Students’ Federation students and people observed the day with a rally marched from Takhellambam Leikai to Thangmeiband Atheletic ground.

The students displayed placards embedded with “Repeal AFSPA from Our Soil” among other slogans.

Students Martyrdom was observed by paying floral tribute to Chittaranjan at Bishnupur bazar where the rights crusader self immolated and at Takhellambam Leikai where his mortal remains was cremated.

Family members, members of various civil society organisations and students paid tribute to the portrait of the student martyr.
