People celebrates Mera Chaoren Houba

Imphal, September, 21: People of Manipur today celebrated ‘Mera Chaoren Houba’ festival with the state festival organised by Lainingthou Sanamahi Temple a at Lainingthou Sanamahi temple, Hiyang Khongbal temple complex inside 1st MR complex, here.

A traditional procession marked the beginning of the festival. After fetching sacred water with ritual performances the cultural procession took upto the Lainingthou Sanamahi temple. People offer fruits and vegetables at the shrine of Godess Ima Leimarel Sidabi and Lainingthou Sanamahi.

The age old celebration aims to bring peace, integrity and harmony in the state amongst the different communities living in Manipur. This festival is celebrated in Manipur heralding the advent of Mera Tha, the seventh month of Manipuri Lunar calendar.

Art and culture minister L. Jayanta Kumar taking part in the festival appealed the people to celebrate together instead of celebrating in different parts of the state so that the spirit of unity among the people could be brought.

People pray Lord Sanamahi at every homes too with offerings and seek blessings for good health and prosperity.

Governor Najma A Heptulla, chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh and the deputy chief minister Yumnam Jokumar Singh, on the eve Mera Chaorel festival, wished the people of Manipur that the festival would strengthen further the inseperable bond existing from time immemorial between the hill and valley people.
