Prayer to win Under 17 FIFA world cup

Imphal, October 2: Parents of  Ningthoingamba Khumanthem and Thangjam Boris, footballers in the Indian under 17 squad along with the people of Khoyathong Polem Leikai and the members of Rising Knowledge Club, Khoyathong today sought blessings from the almighty for the success of the Indian team in the Under 17-FIFA World Cup to be kicked started onOctober 6.

Ningthoingamba and Boris are both from Thangmeiband Polem Leikai.

Spearheaded by the Khoyathong club, the prayer was observed at premise of the Khoyathong club in presence of Ima Memchoubi, women social activist leader.

Photos of the eight boys from Manipur in the Indian squad were portrayed amid the life size portarits of Ningthoingamba and Boris to conduct the prayer.

The club has also arranged to put up a banner to exert support to the under 17 footballers of Mnipur in the Indian team.

Thangjam Boris will play as defender and Ningthoingamba Khumanthem as midfielder in the team.

Amarjit Singh Kyam of Manipur is playing as the Indian team captain in the midfield.

Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem is taking the goalkeeper’s role, Jackson Singh Thounaojam as midfielder, Md. Shah Jahan, Nongdamba Naorem as and Suresh Singh Wangjam as midfielders.

It is quite quite rejoicing for the people of Manipur when eight out of 21 in the under 17 football Indian team are listed dominating in numbers, said Ghanshyam Ngangbam of Rising Knowledge Club.

Under 17-FIFA World Cup is the first ever FIFA cup hosted by India. India will play against USA on the third match of the opening day at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, New Delhi.

Football Lovers Manipur, a group of football enthusiast and the NEROCA FC Fan Club recently requested the chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh to permit them install flex banner to support the Indian under 17 football squad.

Youth affairs and sports minister Letpao Haokip, who himself was a professional footballer, announced Rs. 10,000 each to the eight players from his personal end as a token of encouragement. He had said that every sports person who represented the State or the country in international arenas are given Rs. 5 lakh cash incentive and the same will be applied to the eight footballers selected to represent India in the U-17 World Cup.

People of Thangmeiband had contributed donations to the families of Ningthoingamba and Boris to support the cost of watching their boys play in the world cup in every of their matches.
