NEMCHA KIPGEN DISTRIBUTED FREE LPG CONNECTIONS UNDER PMUY

Kangpokpi, October 3, 2017 (DIPR): Social Welfare and Cooperation Minister Smt Nemcha Kipgen today distributed free LPG connections to fifty-one (51) beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme at the Kangpokpi Community Hall, Kangpokpi District in the presence of Field Officer, I.O.C., Shri T.C. Koren and members of the Civil Society organizations.

Minister Nemcha Kipgen who is also the Local MLA draws the attention of all the villages’ chiefs to sort out the rightful people through Socio Economic Caste Census Data to avail this scheme since it is meant for all the right beneficiaries belonging to the BPL families. Under this scheme, the Present BJP led government aims to reach out to all the poorest of the poor who are still deprived of using LPG as cooking fuel and have to rely on firewood, coal, dung-cakes, she added.

Nemcha asserted this will safeguard the health of women and children by providing them with a clean cooking fuel – LPG and that they don’t have to compromise their health in smoky kitchens or roam around in unsafe areas to collect firewood. The problem of deforestation leading to natural calamities like landslides, mudslides will also be curtail once this scheme reaches to all the household as their won’t be unnecessary cutting down of trees for firewoods.

Social Welfare Minister expressed happiness to learn that the beneficiaries located at the remote areas as well as in those areas affected by natural calamities will be delivered at their doorsteps by the gas agency. The free connections were issued through M/S J.S. Indane Kangpokpi and as part of the distribution, safety measures were also demonstrated to the beneficiaries.

It may be mentioned that Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on May 1st, 2016 in Ballia, Uttar Pradesh. Under this scheme, 5 Crore LPG connections will be provided to BPL families with a support of Rs.1600 per connection in the next 3 years. With an aim to ensure women’s empowerment, especially in rural India, the connections will be issued in the name of women of the households belonging to the BPL families. For the implementation of the scheme, Rs. 8000 Cr. has been allocated by the Government of India. Identification of the BPL families will be done through Socio Economic Caste Census Data.
