INDIAN BADMINTON PLAYERS WILL FLOURISH IN FUTURE: DY. CM

IMPHAL, 4th OCTOBER, 2017 (DIPR): Deputy Chief Minister Shri Yumnam Joykumar Singh has said that Indian Badminton players are of higher standards and they will flourish in future challenging top players around the world. He was speaking to newsmenat his residence at Naoremthong in Imphal today while distributing financial assistance to the parents of four Junior Badminton Players who are representing India in the Asian Badminton Championship, 2017 (Under-15 & Under-17) which begins today at Yangon, Myanmar and World Junior Badminton Championship, 2017 (Under-19) slated to begin on 9th of this month in Indonesia. Deputy Chief Minister handed over a sum of Rs. 50,000 each to the parents of the four players.

Shri Joykumar Singh said, nowadays popularity of Badminton in India especially in Manipur has been increasing a lot. We have a number of talented players which need to be encouraged so that they can perform very wellin National and International tournaments bringing laurels for the nation. He said, countries like China, Malaysia, Indonesia and Denmark have dominated Badminton for years but nowadays players from India, Japan, Korea and Thailand have been challenging them levelling up to the top most positions.

Asserting that State badminton players are playing well formatted higher standards in their games, Deputy Chief Minister expressed confidence that they will be able to win medals in major tournaments and even in Olympics. He said, they should be encouraged with proper care and attention and facilities as well as sufficient infrastructuresto train them should be made available in the State. He appealed the people especially to the sports loving fraternity to encourage and extend help to the budding talents for a successful future.

Wishing the national football team who are going to represent India in the Under-17 Football World cup which is going to begin on 6th of this month in New Delhi, Shri Joykumar Singh said, we are proud of having eight players from Manipur in the national team that will play in the tournament. It will be an impetus to the nation for the development of Football and hope that they will perform well in the tournament and bring laurel for the nation, he added.

In the Asian Badminton Championship 2017(Under-15), Punshiba Yenkhom from Kakching Mayai Leikai will play in Singles and Maisnam Meiraba Luwang from Sega Road will play in Singles in Under-17 Category. While K. Dingko and Kh. Manjit both from Ningthoukhong Ward No. 12 & 13 respectively will participate in Doubles events in World Junior Badminton Championship, 2017.

International Badminton Referee Shri H. Gyaneshwor Singh, coaches and parents participated among others in the function.
