STATE TO INCREASE BLACK RICE SALES

Calcutta, October 29, 2017: Production of black rice in Bengal for export abroad the State Government wants to walk on the path of cultivation to increase further. According to the contract, exporters’ non-governmental organizations will buy the yield of the farmers.

According to the Agriculture Department sources, last year 50 black biscuits were cultivated in black rice, 22 tons.

This time it has been cultivated in 350 bighas (1 begha = 0.33 hectare) of land. The agricultural office is hoping to get at least 100 tonnes of yield. From the mid-November to the first week of December, the crop is to be brought home from the field.

However, the total production of rice in Khariif and Rabi season is more than 15 million tonnes. The production of black rice in the ratio started nine years ago but did not increase.  The Tuku can not be exported. So, the state wants to walk on the path of agreements to grow production.

The state’s agricultural director, Samratanjan Patra, said that all non-government organizations will export this rice, they should treat the farmers with the agreement that they will buy the yield. The Agriculture Department of the farmers will help with the good quality seeds of black rice and cultivation of farming. Agriculture Officer said, the good market of Bengal’s black rice is being made in different countries of Europe. However, he said, “The farmers are not able to sell large amounts of Govinda and sell them abroad. From that experience, the state government does not want to give more encouragement to the production of black rice itself”. Private entrepreneurs will have to come forward to export.

In the Food Carnival ‘Look Ray’ arranged by Calcutta Municipality, rice-noodles, pasta and pies were sold in black rice. Satyabrat Mukhopadhyay, chairman of the Agricultural and Rural Committee of Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is enthusiastic about this. He sent black rice in Bengal and also in Milan and Milan.

The dealer, however, thinks that the situation of cultivating a contract for black rice is not ready now.
