Imphal, November 5: Maoist Communist Party of Manipur’s 12 hours general strike which demanded action against the culprits who are responsible for the misappropriation of PDS items in the state has affected the normalcy in the state.

The Maoist group also demanded resignation of the PDS and CAF minister, Karam Shyam.

The general strike began from 5 am and ended at 5 pm.

All business establishments and market in Imphal were shut down except some few road side vendors. Interstate and inter district transport services were stopped today.

“Leepun Lamjen”, a unity marathon run which was scheduled today has been postponed until further announcement of a new date, due to general strike.

The mega marathon was supposed to start from Bishnupur and wine up at Khuman Lampak sports complex with a targeted participation of 200 runners from across the state.

The Maoist outfit alleged that the PDS items which are supposed to be made available to the poor people of the state under the National Food Security Mission has been hijacked by some persons including Naoba, a right hand of the MLA of Lamlai Assembly Constituency, Gobai of Khurai Assembly Constituency, Momon, brother of Kshetrigao Assembly constituency MLA and one Manglemjao of Kongba who is a brother of a former student leader.

In a statement released earlier the Maoists group said that these persons in connivance with the PDS and CAF Minister have been hijacking the PDS items meant for distribution to the people.

The Maoist also alleged these persons are supported by some rebel groups as well as those in the power. The involvement of these people who have hijacked the PDS items can be easily found out if agency like CBI or NIA takes up investigation over the matter and checked their bank accounts.
