MANIPUR READY TO HOST NORTHEAST DEVELOPMENT SUMMIT 2017: CM

Imphal, November 19, 2107 (DIPR): Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh said that the State is ready to host the first ever North East Development Summit (NEDS) 2017. This was stated by him at the press conference held at Cabinet Hall of Chief Minister’s Secretariat today.

Speaking to the media persons, Chief Minister said that around 20 Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) is expected to be signed between various Departments of Government of Manipur and National and International Companies/Investors. The primary objective of organising such festival is to showcase the existing economic potential and to attract outside investors in terms of food processing industry, bamboo industry, fisheries, real estate etc., he added.

To make the Summit a success, Shri N. Biren Singh called upon the media houses/professionals to play positive and constructive role towards achieving economic development in the State. Stating that preparations for the Manipur Sangai Festival 2017 is almost completed, Chief Minister seeks the support and co-operation to make the upcoming NorthEast Development Summit a grand success. We should not create any inconvenience and troublesome to the tourists and visitors both from the country and abroad, he added.

Stating that altogether 175 delegates will be participating in the Summit, Chief Minister stated that the Summit will be attended by Union Minister for Commerce and Industries Shri Suresh Prabhu, Chief Ministers of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, Director India Foundation, Shri Ram Madhav, Vice-Chairman NITI Ayaog Shri Rajeev Kumar, Ministers and officials from NE states, Ambassadors, High Commissioners and officials from various Countries including Malaysia, China, Japan, Sweden, Taiwan etc.

Around 36 companies/firms from India are participating in addition to Associations like FICCI, CII, NASSCOM, Border Trade Moreh, Myanmar India Business Chamber, India Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce etc. Among others United Nations Resident Co-ordinator Shri Yuri Afanasiev, High Commissioner of Malaysia Shri H.E Dato Hidayat Abdul Hamid will also attend the Summit.

Chief Minister said that the first ever North East Development Summit 2017 will be formally inaugurated by President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind on 21st November, 2017 at 2 p.m.

Mentioned may be made that the NEDS 2017 is jointly organised by Government of Manipur, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India and India Foundation and will be held on 21st and 22nd November, 2017 at City Convention Centre, Imphal.

Chief Secretary Shri R.R Rashmi, Aditional Chief Secretary Dr.  J. Suresh Babu, Principal Secretary Shri Vineet Joshi, Vice-Chairman of Manipur Infrastructure Development Agency (MIDA), M. Asnikumar attended the press conference.
