Gold smuggler apprehended

Imphal, December 12: Police has seized 40 smuggled gold biscuits which were hidden in the frames of rear doors of a van ferrying near Tengnoupal police station gate yesterday.

Based on a specific input received from Customs Preventive Force, Moreh about the carrying of some smuggled gold bars from Moreh towards lmphal side on a Maruti van a team of Tengnoupal district police conducted checking of suspected vehicles on the NH-1O2. Two Maruti vans silver in colour bearing registration numbers MN- 015/9384 and AS-01DB/0580 were detained along with the persons in the two Maruti Vans.

During the search two packets of gold bars weighing 6.632 kg wrapped with black and transparent Sellotapes, one on each side were detected in the frames of the two rear doors of the Maruti van bearing AS-01DB/O580.

On preliminary questioning of the owner of the Maruti Van AS-O1DB/O580, Md. Iqbal Hussain (31) son of Md. Allaudin of Kwakta Terakhongsangbi, Bishnupur, disclosed that the gold bars have been smuggled by him from Myanmar in collusion with the other driver Md. Gayajuddin @ Sagei alias Ningthou (33) son of (L) Md. Allimuddin of Lilong Kaleikhong, Thoubal and another person namely Md. Adam (31) of Lilong Mayai Leikai.

 Md. Iqbal Hussain  and the Md. Gayajuddin were arrested while the police were tracing Md. Adam.

Forty gold biscuits along with the vans were seized. The arrested persons and seized articles have been handed over the Customs Preventive Force, Moreh.
