MEEETEI CHANU ASPIRANTS COMPETE ON WAI TEIBA

Imphal, December 16, 2017 : Meetei Chanu contenders today competed on Sumang Wai Teiba, traditional courtyard moping at Wangoi in Imphal West after they raced for best traditional kitchen service as Phu Houba contest, yesterday.

Meitei Chanu contest has been organised by Lainingthou Sanamahi Sana Pung, LSSP with the motive to preserve the culture of the Meetei tradition which is in the verse of extinction.

The “Phu Houba” part of audition was today held for the Meetei Chanu at Ibudhou Chingngu Marjing Mandap, Heingang, Imphal West.

In today’s audition all the 35 participants contested in the traditional way moping courtyard.

The process of contest began on December 10 with screening followed by realty show audition on December 12. The grand finale of the beauty contest on the Meitei traditional community will be staged on December 23 at Bheigyachandra Open Air Theatre.

General secretary, LSSP, Lonja Alepa said the contest is organised to preserve the cultural tradition of  the Meeteis among the youth of today even if many of the traditions followed has been vanished in pace of time.
