SPECIAL STATE SECURITY FORCES DEPLOYED AT MANIPUR BORDERS

Imphal, January 3, 2018: In view of the ongoing publication of the draft National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam and its spillover effects on Manipur, special arrangements have been made by the Manipur government for effective checking of illegal immigrants into the state.

Special teams of state police led by senior officers of the rank of assistant commandant and additional SP have been deployed at Jiribam Bapupara Bazar, the waterways having access towards Jiribam, and the route to Jiribam district.

Special teams have also been deployed at Mao gate in Senapati district and Tamei-Halflong road along Assam border in Tamenglong district for checking illegal of immigrants into the state.

About 1.9 crore of the 3.29 crore Assam residents have been tagged as ‘legal’, while the rest await further verification. The first draft of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was published on the last day of 2017.
