Imphal, January 18, 2017: Additional session judge (Fast Track Court) Manipur East, W. Tonen Meitei today convicted three persons in connection to murder of a person on June 23, 1989 at Khoyathong Pukhri Achouba Mapal.
The accused were convicted under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code read with section 149 of the same code for murdering Polem Satyajit alias Satyajit Kumar Singh son of Polem Indrajit Singh of Thangmeiband Polem Lekai by the Khoyathong public pond.
The court directed to produce the three convicts on January 18 for sentence hearing. Six persons were involved in the killing. The other three accused expired during course of trial.
The convicted individuals are Pukhrambam Joykumar alias Sahajahan Singh, 60, son of (L) P. Shyamnagor Singh and Khangjarakpam Basanta Singh, 60, son of (L) Kh. Ahanjao Singh, both resident of Sagolband Meino Leirak and Pangeijam Ramananda Singh, 62, son of (L) P. Ibotombi Singh of Sagolband Salam Leikai.
Joykumar was absent at the court but his counsel filed an application praying for dispense on the ground of illness, which was rejected and issued non-bailable warrant against Joykumar.
Satyajit along with his friend Nongmaithem Megha Singh of Thangmeiband were assaulted by six persons including the three convicted in revenge of assaulting Joykumar by victim Satyajit who succumbed to his injuries at RIMS.
Khangjarakpam Basanta Singh and Pangeijam Ramananda Singh were handed over to SP, Manipur central jail, Sajiwa. The court directed to produce before the same court on January 18 to declare the quantum of punishment.
