CHPC TRIUMPHS

Pothashang News Service, Imphal, February 6: Chingkheihunba Polo Club (CHPC) was declared the overall champion of the 15th DG Assam Rifles Sentinel Cup Equestrian Championship and 9th Junior State Equestrian Championship was conducted at Polo Ground, Imphal.

Manipur Police Sports Club (A Team) won the team events of Tent Pegging in senior category. O Roga Singh, Y. Suraj Singh and Ms Th. Tanna Devi all from CHPC were adjudged best riders in individual category of Tent Pegging, Show Jumping and Women Show Jumping respectively. Chingkheihunba Polo Club (CHPC) was declared the overall champion in Senior, Junior and the Women’s category respectively.

The event was conducted by 6 Assam Rifles of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) in association with Manipur Equestrian Association and Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association. Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, Director General Assam Rifles declared the championship ‘closed’ at a Grand Ceremony at Mapal Kangjeibung. The General Officer was accorded a warm welcome in a traditional manner. Major General Virendra Singh, VSM, IGAR (South), Brigadier Amit Kabthiiyal, SM, Commander, 9 Sector Assam Rifles, alongwith Dr Ksh Chourjit Singh, President, Manipur Pony Society and Dr H Chouba Singh, Director Veterinary and A H Services as the Guest of Honour were also present during the culmination of the prestigious event.

Speaking on the occasion Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan, AVSM, YSM, SM, VSM, highlighted the rich history and cultural heritage of equestrian events to include Polo in Manipur. He congratulated all the participants and prize winners for their sportsmanship, skill, zeal and enthusiasm during the five day championship. He also reaffirmed the commitment of Assam Rifles to bring peace & prosperity in Manipur. He appreciated the effort of Manipur Equestrian Association, Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association and all the Polo Clubs of the State for not only preserving Manipuri Polo but also raising its standards over the years and the association of Assam Rifles with them. The entire ceremony was full of gaiety and splendour but the cynosure of the ceremony were the Senior Tent Pegging, Show Jumping, Cultural show and exhibition match of Sagol Kangjei (Traditional Manipuri Polo) which received accolades from the gathering on their superlative performances.
