Pothashang News Service : Imphal, February 27, 2018: In an attempt to strengthen the relations with the local sports clubs and promoting sports in Manipur, 5 JAK RIF of 9 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of IGAR (South) organised a friendly Volleyball match between Mayang Imphal Company Operating Base and Paobitek Youth Development Organization (PYDO) at Paobitek Mayai Lekai yesterday.
MLA Wangoi A/C Lukhoi Singh and film actor cum social worker R.K.Somendro (Kaiku) were invited as chief guest and Yumnam Jamuna Devi, chairperson of Laxmi Bazaar Nagar Panchayat was the guest of honour in the event.
The match was attended by an audience of approximately 250 persons. Both teams participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. The event ended with an interactive session with the players and the locals focusing on the importance of sports in the Manipuri culture.
The initiative taken by the Army for spreading awareness about importance of sports through a friendly match was deeply appreciated by the local populace, said a press statement released by IGAR (S).
