Manipur University is hosting the 105th Indian Science Congress for the first time in its history

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, 12 March 2018: Manipur University is hosting the 105^th INDIAN SCIENCE CONGRESS – 2018 from 16 – 20 March. The focal Theme of this year’s meet is “Reaching the Unreached Through Science and Technology.” Indian Science Congress is the biggest scientific event of its kind nationwide.

Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the 105^th India Science Congress (ISC) at Manipur University, Manipur on 16^th March.

India Science Congress has been organised by the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) a premier scientific Organisation of India with headquarter at Kolkota, West Bengal. It has membership of more than 40,000 till now. The association started in the year 1914 in Kolkata and it meets annually in the first week of January.

It is a record that this scientific premiere organisation has been conducting India’s biggest science meets every year successfully without any breaks from its inception.

This annual event, which is on the Prime Minister’s calendar in January every year, was postponed and changed venue for the first time in its more than a 100-year history after the host Osmania University pulled out at the last moment.

It is a challenge for Manipur University to host such a mammoth event of this magnitude within a very short period of time but, with sincere efforts of Hon’ble Governor and Chief Minister of Manipur and all the stakeholders, all the arrangements have been made and ready for the forthcoming mega event.

Number of Cabinet and MoS from Delhi will be present for the inauguration and valedictory functions of various events such as Children Science Congress, Women Science Congress and Science Communicator Meet.  A large number of outside participants are expected to join the event at Manipur University.

Total numbers of 3200 registrations have been done so far and 1000 will be given complimentary. The number of online registration is increasing and ‘On-Spot’ registration will also start from 14^th March till 16^th March 2018. A large number of about 5000 audiences, scientists, faculty & research scholars from Indian universities and other parts of the world, students and other science enthusiasts are expected to attend the event this time.

Three Nobel Laureates Viz., Dalai Lama, Prof. Muhammad Yunus and Prof. Hiroshi Amano will deliver speeches on March 17, 18, 19 respectively.

There are number of Scientific Sessions in this event Viz., Science Communicators’ Meet, Women Science Congress, Children’s Science Congress, Agricultural and Forestry Sciences, Anthropological and Behavioural Sciences (Including Archaeology, Education and Military Science), Chemical Sciences, Information & Communication Science & Technology (Including Computer Science), Earth System Science, Engineering Science, Environmental Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Medical Sciences, New Biology (Including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology), Physical Science.

All Ministers promoting Science & Technology (DST, DBT, CSIR, ICMR, ICAR, MSME, AICTE, UGC, Ministry of Earth Sciences, Skills). Represented by Minister, Secretary, Advisor, Industry partnership promoting Institute-industry collaboration (Medical device, Biotech Industries, Chemical, Mining, IT), Industry partnership promoting Institute-industry collaboration (Medical device, Biotech Industries, Chemical, Mining, IT) and All science and engineering academies of India will take part in the event.

For smooth functioning of the Mega Event, all the arrangements have been made: Transportation, accommodation, food and other amenities.

More than 200 vehicles are aligned for transportation of the delegates and participants.

For accommodation, all the major hotels of the Imphal city have been reserved for the ISC delegates: Classic Grande, The Hotel Imphal, The Sangai Continental, Hotel Yaiphaba, Niramala Hotel, Hotel Lanchenba, Hotel Bheigo, The Sangai Hotel, Anand Continental, Shirui Hotel, Hotel Yaisana.
