Sporting talents in hills should be tapped and promoted: Minister Letpao

Imphal, March 13, 2018(DIPR):  YAS Minister Shri Letpao Haokip opined that there is no dearth of sporting talents in the hill areas of Manipur and the untapped potentials should be find out and promoted. Showing that the new government’s promise of ‘Go To the Hills’ governance is being taken seriously, two sports complexes in various areas of Ukhrul district was inaugurated today.

The inaugurated projects are the Bakshi Sports Ground at Hungpung and Tangkhul Naga Long Ground at Wino Bazar of Ukhrul district headquarter. Both the projects were constructed under the NLCPR (Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources).

The Hon’ble Minister for YAS inaugurated these projects in the attendance of Ukhrul A/C MLA Shri Alfred Kanngam Arthur; Chingai A/C MLA Shri Khashim Vashum; Phungyar A/C MLA Shri Leishiyo Keishing and Ukhrul DC Dr Harmit Singh Pahuja. Top government officials and hundreds of public and sportspersons also attended the inaugural ceremony.

Giving his Chief Guest speech, Shri Letpao Haokip stated that the government is very serious about bringing development alike in both hills and valley, and the field of games and sports is not an exception in this endeavour. Being a former sportsperson himself, he expressed that there is abundant sporting skills in the youth of hill districts, and that talent has to be tapped and promoted with proper infrastructure and guidance.

The Minister further appealed the public, especially the youths, to inculcate the habit of games and sports in their life as it reaps many benefits including a healthier lifestyle and infrastructure should not be an issue, once if the potential and skills are identified.

Shri Letpao appealed the people of Ukhrul district to take maximum advantage from the infrastructures inaugurated today and to maintain the properties carefully as their own personal properties.

The Minister for the YAS and Water Resources also taking advantage of the gathering appealed the government employees posted in hill areas to execute their services judiciously and wholeheartedly, as it is only through their sincere services that the benefits of the inaugurated projects and schemes will be availed to the public properly.
