IMPHAL, MARCH 14, 2018 (DIPR): Forest and Environment Minister Shri Thounaojam Shyamkumar today inaugurated ‘Augmentation of Ngairangbam Water Supply Scheme under NRDWP (SAGY)’ and ‘Augmentation of Konthoujam Water Supply Scheme under NLCR at two different functions organised by the Public Health Engineering Department.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of the inaugural function at Kangmong Tera Urak under Konthoujam A/C, Minister Shyamkumar said the State Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri N. Biren Singh has been inaugurating various projects, from the beginning of this month, so that these projects can function smoothly. He said the inaugurations will enable the authorities to address the problems if there are any.
He advised the higher up authorities to use their pen to bring development and change in the nation. Welcoming positive criticism from the public, he said collaboration between the public, the leaders and the State Government will surely pave a way for development in the State.
Speaking on necessity for the conservation of environment, he assured to the locals that his department will help in establishing an eco-tourism park so that citizens can have a place for recreation.
He further advised the village water and sanitation committee to work with sincerity for the success of the scheme. He also said, every household in the area should get water supply connection and tax should be paid on time.
Speaking as the Chief Guest of the inaugural function at Ngairangbam under Konthoujam A/C, Minister Th. Shyamkumar spoke on importance of water conservation. Assuring the locals to provide saplings from the Forest Department for conservation of environment, he said he will help the locals in expanding the pond to store more water for lean season.
The Ngairangbam Water Supply Scheme under the NRDWP (SAGY) is constructed with a cost of Rs 89.95 lakhs. The construction of the project, which began on January 29, 2016, got completed 23 days ahead of its schedule date on March 8, 2018. The water supply scheme with capacity of 0.16 MLD will provide water to households of 2,909 in Ngairangbam and 1,000 in part of Khumbong. The source of the water supply scheme is Maklang river.
The Konthoujam Water Supply Scheme under NLCR is constructed with a cost of Rs 8.85 crores with Sajirok river as source of the scheme. The water supply scheme will cover habitants of Konthoujam (4,025 heads), Maisnam Kangmong (4,553 heads), Heigrujam (2,285 heads), Khaidem (1,750 heads), Sajirok (449 heads) and Moidangpok Khunou (517 heads).
As part of the functions, Forest and Environment Minister planted saplings in both the locations.
