Technology business incubation centre inaugurated

Imphal, the 15th March, 2018 (DIPR): Union Minister for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, Environment & Forests and Climate Change, Dr. Harsh Vardhan has inaugurated Technology Business Incubation Centre at IBSD Campus, Takyelpat, Imphal today.

Speaking as Chief Guest, the union minister urges the people to join and promote the “Green Good Deeds” movement which focuses on social & public activities. Planting of Bamboo is also a part of Green Good Deeds and reminds to perform at least one Green Good Deed every day. Anybody can access the 500 Green Good Deeds listed in the Mobile App. Youth of the country should be provided all sorts of opportunity more particularly in the field of Science & Technology.

He further said that Technology Business Incubation Centre would provide work space with shared office facilities as well as business and professional services necessary for nurturing and supporting early growth of technology and technology based enterprises. This will nurture new and small businesses by helping educated, unemployed youth to survive and grow through the difficult and vulnerable early stages of development. Unemployment is a major problem and the govt. jobs are limited. Many parts of North East is inaccessible and have inadequate infrastructure.

The IBSD Technology Business Incubation Centre will provide a one stop platform, with its geo strategic location of being at the heart of the Indo-Myanmar biodiversity hotspot, in facilitating life sciences based entrepreneurship and provide a start up ecosystem to generate employment and the next generation of bio-entrepreneurs with guidance in financial management and commercialization of the technology.

In his Presidential address, Director, IBSD Prof. Dinabandhu Sahoo said that IBSD has invested hugely to make a state of the art building in its campus and has purchased modern equipments. The bio-resources available in North East are unique. IBSD is trying to promote the uniqueness of the region. The technology Business Incubation Centre would create jobs for unemployment youths of the region. IBSD has established a Technology and Skill Development Centre which has been imparting training various activities. Technology Business Incubation Centre is set up to develop Life Sciences based entrepreneurship.

Some of the ongoing technologies being incubated at the Technology Business Incubation Centre at IBSD are Food testing facility, Product development, Scientific validation of herbal medicines, Supply of quality planting material developed through tissue culture based technology and High quality silk yarn production.

The Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development is a National Institute of Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India.
