TLM kits distributed to intellectual disable persons

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 20, 2018: Teaching/learning materials were today distributed to 160 persons with intellectual disabilities in a distribution function held at Gandhi Memorial hall, Imphal, organised by Relief Centre for the Welfare of Differently Abled Persons, Manipur and office of the state commissioner for persons with disabilities.
The distribution was sponsored by National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities (Divyangjan), NEIPID and department of empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divytangjan), ministry of social justice and empowerment.
The TLM kits distributed today varies according to four mental age groups as Kit-1 (0-3 years), Kit-2 (4-6 years), Kit-3 (7-11 years) and Kit-4 (12 years and above). The kits for the first three age groups are for mental exercise, concept development, sensory development like books and toys, and pre-vocational kits include mobile phones, watch, calculator, weighing machines and sewing materials.
Head of department of NEIPID T. Mugesh said, we will also take up different training programmes for parents, teachers, doctors and also organise workshops and national level seminars.
These 160 persons who received the TLM kits were selected out of 180 persons during an awareness camp held in January in Imphal.
“I am glad for my son to be here in such a rare opportunity. To them it’s a great time and also an eye opening event, mingling with their friends they seldom get unlike the common children”, said mother of L. Siddarth who received kits today.
Speaker Y. Khemchand was the chief guest of the function.
