Measles outbreak at Phoklong kills 4

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, Mar 23: Measles has killed 4 at Phoklong village of Tamenglong district including one four years old boy who died on Wednesday night while two are said to be in critical condition among sixty children who are suffering from the disease.

Elungtuing Pame, a four-year old boy from Phoklong village, Tamenglong had for two-three days experienced fever, headache and diarrhea with red skin rashes, and on March 21 he coughed whole night and breathed his last.

Doctors confirmed that Elungtuing died suffering from measles. Three other children have died with the same symptoms since the beginning of February month.

Block level and district level officials sent medical teams in the village including chief medical officer of Tamenglong district on March 3, additional director and IDSP team on March 6 and MOs of Tousem PHC on March 21.

One of the villagers said all medical teams came without sufficient curable medicines.
