MMWO strike upshots clash

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, March 31, 2018: Forty-two hours general strike launched yesterday midnight has disrupted the normalcy in Imphal especially along the Khurai Chairenthong-Saombung -Khabeishoi area in Imphal East.
The general strike was imposed by Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) against the government’s the ‘failure’ to carry out investigation on the schemes of the department for the welfare of minorities and other backward classes (MOBC).
The agitators damaged a passenger vehicle at Khabeishoi area. Police fired rubber bullet, tear gas shell and smoke bombs to push away the strike volunteers along the road. One of the agitators was injured and another two were lifted by the police as information says till the filing of this report.
In the midst while confrontations between the agitators and the police women folk of the area rose up pushing to release the lifted agitators.
Secretary general, M.A. Chesabam earlier said MMWO along with others CSOs has been demanding to conduct inquiry regarding the different schemes taken up during 2010 to 2017 by the MOBC department for the welfare of the people.
On March 11 after any open discussion with other CSOs and public the organisation had given an ultimatum till March 18 asking for a positive response from the government.
Essential services like water are relaxed in the strike.
