Drug worth Rs. 16 crore seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 2, 2018: In one of the largest recoveries of contraband items in recent times, 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles today apprehended a drug peddler with World is Yours tablets weighing approximately 39 kg at Khudengthabi check post in Tengnoupal district.

Acting on specific input, a bus bearing registration number MN01 1394 was stopped at the check post. On thorough checking of the bus, WIY Tablets approximately 3,20,000 numbers inside1600 packets were found in a modified concealed compartment of the bus. It is pertinent to mention here that this seizure of contraband drugs by Assam Rifles is a major blow to the drug peddlers in the state and the same is the largest recovery of drug consignment so far, said a press statement released by IGAR (S).

Since 2017, 12 Assam Rifles has recovered contraband items worth approximate Rs. 70 Crore and the same is a major step in making Manipur a Drug Free State. Recovered drugs along with apprehendee was handed over to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal, it added.
