Retired police officer arrested

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 14, 2018:  A retired deputy Superintendent of police, Abdul Latif, 63, a resident of Dewlaland Kabow Leikai, Imphal West, was arrested by narcotics Affairs of Border (NAB) yesterday evening in connection with drug trade.

The retired police officer was arrested after one Manzil Ahmed Laskar who is in police custody named him of involving in the drug racket.

Manzil Ahmed was arrested after he was apprehended by 23 Assam Rifles, posted at Kaimai, Tousem, Tamenglong, on April 10 along with 11.34 kg of ‘World is Yours’ (WY) tablets (1 lakh tablets).

The WY drug was found inside a cruiser vehicle bearing registration number AS 11 AC-6710.

Manzil Ahmed, 30, is the son of Jamir Uddin Laskar of Uttar Lalpani, Cachar, Assam.

After the seized items and Manzil was handed to NAB, a case has been registered.

During the course of investigation Manzil Ahmed disclosed that the seized vehicle was loaded with the drugs at the residence of Abdul Latif, by Manzil Ahmed with one Rabul and Md. Abdul Manzil.

Rabul assured Manzil Ahmed of his security in transportation as the drugs as the Boss is a police and need not worry. Manzil Ahmed also disclosed that the seized drugs were brought down by Abdul Latif from the upstairs of the retired officer’s residence.

Accordingly Abdul Latif was arrested and remanded to police custody said T. Brinda, deputy SP, NAB at her office while addressing to reporters today.

This year 30 cases have been registered and 17 accused have been arrested.
