Radheshyam celebrates Ujjwala Diwas

Imphal, 20^th April, 2018 (DIPR): Education, Labour & Employment Minister Shri Thokchom Radheshyam celebrated Ujjwala Diwas today at Nongpok Ningthou Laikol, Salungpham. It was held as announced by the Ministry of the Petroleum & Natural Gas to observe 20^th April 2018 as Ujjwala Diwas.

Minister said that the gas connections being provided to the poor women are to free the womenfolk from the smokes of the traditional cooking using wood and cowdung cakes which threaten their health. The gas connection is provided especially with a focus to improve women’s health, he stressed, and to empower every women of the country for an inclusive growth. He further stressed that the government’s aim is to make every household to avail of LPG Gas connection.

The Pradhan Mantri LPG Panchayat was also organised by Indian Oil Corp. Ltd. with support from Indane LPG Distributors as part of the Diwas. It was observed, under the “Gram Swaraj Abhiyan” of the Ministry of Rural Development to promote the theme ‘Learn a Bit, Educate a Bit’ across the country.

During the occasion Heirok Gas Agency distributed new LPG gas connection to 100 (hundred) households of the Heirok A/C. The womenfolk who are the beneficiaries of Ujjwala were also sensitised about the safety and utility of LPG, health benefits of using clean fuels.

The clean cooking fuel is being provided to the women of the country under the flagship programme of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) who belong to the BPL families identified from the SECC list or BPL family covered under either one of the categories:, SC/ST households, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY), Forest dwellers, Most Backward Classes (MBC), Tea and Ex-Tea Garden Tribes or people residing in Island & river Islands.
