5 kg Gold biscuits seized

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 24, 2018: The officers of anti-smuggling unit of customs division Imphal on Tuesday seized 30 gold biscuits of foreign origin from one smuggler at Khurai Lamlong Bazar area in Imhal East.

The gold biscuits weigh 5 kg and it would worth Rs. 1.5 crores approximately. They were seized from one Md. Yasin, son of Rahamat, resident of Sangai Yumfam, Thoubal district. He was formally arrested.

Assistant commissioner of the customs division Rajkumar Darendrajit Singh displaying the seized gold biscuits along with Yasin at its office said, “We have been trying to nab the smuggler with two sleepless nights waiting for him by the streets. We are able to arrest him today morning at around 9 am.

Manipur even though small has high gold consumers. Manipur consumes the gold which came through Meghalaya and Assam. The gold including the Swiss gold which came through the Indo-Maynamar border is generally sold outside the state. These gold biscuits are supposed to trade outside the state. We are taking up investigation to Yasin’s associates, said the customs’ officer.
