Plea for strong bridge instead of hanging bridge

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, April 30, 2018: Bailey Bridge Construction Demand Committee (BBCDC) of Sekmaijin Khunou and Phoubakchao today urged the chief minister Nonthombam Biren Singh for construction of an all-weather bridge instead of the hanging bridge.

The appeal was made on the eve of the launching of “Go to Village’ mission, which was scheduled to launch on May Day at Laphupat Tera Komlakhong Gram Panchayat in Konuma, Mayang Imphal constituency of Imphal West district

Secretary of the committee, Konthoujam Manihar talking to reporters at Manipur Press Club saidt the Litan bridge that connects Imphal West district and Kakching district was constructed in 1972.The deplorable condition of the bridge has not been checked by concerned authorities since its inauguration, he added.

It is the locals that repaired the bridge for about ten times without any government’s help. The bridge is being crossed by around 3000 people daily, he noted.

He appealed the government to look into the condition of the bridge on the arrival of state officials for launching the campaign programme at Konuma.
