Most crowded press meet witnessed


Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 10, 2018: It was the most crowded press meet ever seen complaining of people’s grievances through reporters when women of about 500 turned up at Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Wednesday to show solidarity against the shifting of Imphal East district hospital to Kyamgei.

Members of JAC Women Front against Unnatural Shifting of District Hospital at Sagolmang said Sagolmang serves the centre for both Khundrakpam and Saikul Assembly Constituencies.

They cautioned that an incident more severe than Kangla naked protest would come up if the government fails to listen to their demand by May 15.

Co-convener of the JAC’s women front, Binota Nongmeikappam said the transfer of district hospital to Kyamgei is condemnable. The land allotted at Sagolmang which the former state government laid foundation stone in 2011 has fencing already been done. There is no land dispute. The cabinet meeting has also on October 4, 2017 resolved to construct Imphal East district hospital at Sagolmang. The health minister himself had also assured twice that the same will be constructed very soon, but has shifted the district hospital to different unrelated place, she charged.

A memorandum was submitted to the governor in the afternoon requesting to intervene into the matter and to advice the chief minister to construct the district hospital at Sagolmang at the interest of the general as well as remote villagers of both valley and hill areas of Khundrakpam and Saikul Assembly Constituencies.
