Complain over Go to Village ‘failure’

Pothashang New Service: Imphal, May 16, 2018: Komrem Mothers’ Association has complained over ‘failure’ of the ‘Go to Village’ mission at Samulamlan block, Tuiringphaisen village, Churchandpur.

The villagers complain that the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAP) fails to benefit the deserving villagers who are Kom community.

President of Komrem Mothers’ Association Serto Abi Kom told the reporters at Manipur Press club that the IGNOAP beneficiaries list was a fake.

“It is very unfortunate that the Go to Village mission camp held at Samulamlan block, Tuiringphaisen village did not benefit the people of the village. Yesterday the officials who conducted the mission camp fixed a list for old age pensioners of the village at the community hall where the camp was held. But the names in the list are all names of Kuki people, not of Kom people, said Serto.

She said as the names are all bogus, the villagers went hostile. She draws the attention of the chief minister to take action over the issue. “We want the government to make the pension reach to the deserving widows and old people”, she said.

The mission is a good initiative, but the officials who came to our village yesterday conducted the mission erroneously, said the women leader saying that the villagers have so far not got any benefit from government schemes.

The third chapter of the Go to Village mission was launched yesterday across the state.

Go to Village mission was launched by chief minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on May 1 with the objective to deliver government schemes at the doorstep of the beneficiaries.
