PMAY beneficiaries demands second installment

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, May 24, 2018: Oinam municipal council area beneficiaries of Pradhan Mantri Awaz Yojana, Housing for All (Urban) scheme has urged the state government to immediately release second installment of the scheme.

They complain that they are facing problems as rainy season begins when there is no roof of the houses constructed.

Sixty-five beneficiaries, out of 380 short listed for the economically weaker section in Oinam for the second phase of the scheme, who have got the first instalment of Rs. 60, 000 in February.

The second phase of the scheme is to be implemented during April 2017 – March 2019.

They have completed construction the foundation part and could not continue as the second installment of another Rs. 60, 000 is not released. The second installment was to be released as soon as the first installment subsidy was utilised, W. Kunjo Singh, a beneficiary told reporters at Manipur Press Club on Thursday.

The third installment of Rs. 30 thousand is to be released after the second installment is utilised. “We were very happy when we got the first installment and started construction. However as the second installment is not released we are unable to complete in time, said Kunjo briefing the reporters at Manipur Press Club on Thursday.

He said some of them have completed construction with borrowed money as they believed that the second and third instalments would be released soon.

The beneficiaries had complained chief minister Nonthombam Biren Singh on Miyamgee Numit (people’s day) on April 15. He had directed the MAHUD department to take up necessary measures to meet the grievances of Oinam people.

Kunjo said, as there has been no response from the department we went to the department and met the director. The director told us that the department had written to the ministry to release fund. When asked him to show a copy of the letter he answered it was confidential, said Kunjo.

The subsidy of Rs. 1.5 lakh is provided to a family under the ‘Beneficiary-led individual house construction’ of Pradhan Mantri Awaz Yojana, Housing for All (Urban).
