Bihar smugglers held with 8 gold biscuits in Imphal


Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 2, 2018: Two gold smugglers from Bihar were arrested today with eight gold biscuits from MG Avenue, Imphal, by officers of anti smuggling unit of Imphal customs division.

The two smugglers were produced before the media with the gold biscuits at customs office, here. They were identified as Arun Kumar, 47, son of Kanhai Lal, resident of Gurhatta Ashok Chakra Gali, More, Patan, Bihar and Rajkumar Sah, 42, son of Ratan Sah , resident of Karishna Road Bakshi Mohalla, Gurhatta, Patna, Bihar.

Assistant commissioner, customs division, Imphal, R.K. Darendrajit Singh said that acting on specific information his officers acted effectively to arrest the smugglers from MG Avenue, near Imphal Municipal Council traffic point.

Further investigation is going on to find out where the smugglers were trying to transfer the gold, he added.

The gold biscuits are suspected to have originated from China. If we have not arrested them at this right moment it would have been difficult to track the gold as the gold biscuits have been inserted to their rectums to transport, said the assistant commissioner.
