31 DESAM protestors detained

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 5, 2018: At least 31 mass court arrest agitators of Democratic Students’ Alliance Manipur (DESAM) have been detained as they tried to storm into chief minister’s bungalow today afternoon.

The mass court arrest agitation was taken up as a part of decrying the alleged harassment to their family members and search of their volunteers and leaders in their respective houses by the state police for making arrest in connection with the vandalising of National Sports University office.

Confrontation took place between volunteers of DESAM and state police, while police were trying to stop them from heading towards chief minister’s bungalow.

The arrested student leaders were taken to Imphal police station and were later shifted from Imphal police to other police station of Imphal West district.

DESAM secretary Shetal said DESAM has been urging not to establish the sports university just for the namesake and had also submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister, Narendra Modi and chief minister, N. Biren in the regard to make the NSU a fully-fledged university.

As the government and the authority remains deaf ears to their demands they has vandilised the NSU office, said Shetal.

The student body is set to continue the mass court arrest agitation tomorrow with the support of all branch members of DESAM.
