Suspected militant encountered at Jiribam

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 11, 2018: One suspect United Tribal Liberation Front (UTLA) Peniel cadre encountered during a gun battle in the intervening night of June 10 and 11.

Police report said the battle took place at around 11.25 pm yesterday near Kuran Madrassa Ahmedabad under Jiribam police station. The battle last for around ten minutes between the suspected UTLA (P) cadres and 37 Assam Rifle’s personnel.

After the battle Jiribam police and commando Jiribam unit rush to the spot for inquest and other necessary procedure. Reports said during the battle one suspected UTLA (P) was killed, two other suspected UTLA (P) cadres were also arrested, and 2 fled from the spot taking advantage of darkness.

One pistol and one M16 rifle was recovered from the possession of the insurgents. A case has been registered at Jiribam police regarding the incident and the body has been taken to Jiribam morgue.
