People’s committee urges to black-list contractors

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 19, 2018: Peace and Development Co-ordinating Committee (PDCC) has urged Manipur government to black-list contractors who cheated people on construction works of two projects in connection with improvement of Imphal-Saikul road.

The two works are improvement of Imphal-Saikul road (2.40km to 22 km including construction of RCC slab culvert at Yumnam Patlou)—portion – IV and Improvement of Imphal-Saikul road (2.40km to 22 km)(Strengthening the existing pavement from 16:305 km to 10 km)—portion-V.

These two works has been awarded to agencies L.Tarpon Singh and M/S L. Singh and Co under works allotted on April 14, 2016.

The villagers complain that the present condition of Imphal-Saikul road covered under this work order is not satisfied.

“People have been facing problems on the worst road for the last about 30 years, several incidents with three death cases were occurred,” said Th. Hemsing, secretary PDCC.

The RC slab culvert at Yumnam Patlou is one of the most important junctions that connect Khundrakpam Assembly Constituency and the Saikul Assembly Constituency is not yet constructed. It is learnt that the works order have already been matured. In the past two months some parts of the work was started for name sake. However the maximum amount of the work has been withdrawn without completion, complains PDCC.

With these complaints PDCC today submitted a memorandum to works minister Th. Biswajit.

Hemsing said “after investigation M/S L. Singh and Co has been found related to our Local MLA”.

“Action should be taken up against the department which has approved their work and recover the amount withdrawn by the contractors,” said the secretary.
