Trinamool Manipur condemns politician in drug cartel

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, June 21, 2018: The Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee has expressed its shock and anguish at the seizure of large quantities of heroin powder and WY tablets worth Rs. 27 Crores in addition to seizure of 57,18,000 in hard cash, arms and ammunition from the possession of Lutkhosei Zou, chairman of Autonomous District Council, Chandel yesterday.

This seizure had been made from his residence at Lamphel. The seizure of such a huge quantity of contraband drugs, cash and arms from the custody of a person like the chairman of ADC, Chandel proves beyond doubt the possibility of involvement of other VIPs and the high and mighty. The MPTCC is also apprehensive of the possibility of the case being put under the carpet to protect the high and the mighty, said senior vice-chairman of Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee Thokchom Inaocha Singh in a press conference held at its office.

It is also questionable as to how the drug reached the Lamphel Quarter of the ADC Chairman which lies in the high security zone. This has further increased our apprehension about the involvement of powerful people, he added.
Unscrupulous people like the ADC Chandel and others of his ilk have made fortunes at the cost of the precious lives of gullible people. It is a wonder as to how their illegal business have thrived inspite of innumerable vigilantes and security networks. Cases of seizure of contraband drug happens at regular intervals in Manipur involving high ranking officials from the defense services and even elected people. Our apprehension is none of the cases of seizure of drugs and other illegal elements have reached justifiable conclusion. There is a loop hole in the implementation of relevant provisions of law in the cases involving seizure of drugs and harmful illegal substances. It is high time we need to find out the powers behind this entire cat and mouse game, said the Trinamool leader.

The Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee demands the thorough investigation of the case by an independent investigating agency like CBI or the NIA to bring to book all the criminals involved in the drug business and made public the members of the drugs cartel.

It appreciated the ‘brave officers’ and personal of the Manipur police and other agencies who have heeded the ADC Chandel and his co-conspirators.
