Seven students injured in agitation for ouster of VC Pandey

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 16, 2018: A least seven students including a student leader were injured when police tried to disperse agitating students who  stormed towards the Raj Bhawan and BJP Manipur Pradesh office today.

The agitation was spearheaded by Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) demanding solution to Manipur University impasse by removing vice-chancellor Adya Prasad Pandey.

The left hand of the student leader, Shital Oinam, general secretary of DESAM was fractured when a truck ran over his hand as he failed down when police tried to push back the agitating students. In the police thrust five other students including two girls fainted.

One student identified as L. Sophia fainted when police allegedly lathi-charged the agitating students in front of the Raj Bhawan gate. She was injured at the forehead.

All the seven students were rushed to Raj Medicity. Sophia remained unconscious for a while at the hospital. Doctor said she was out of danger.

The hospital doctor recommended a surgery for Shital to be conducted tomorrow.

The remaining were said to be of minor injuries.

The agitating students first stormed towards Raj Bhawan and later stormed at the BJP office.

In front of the Raj Bhawan gate the students shouted “Remove irresponsible VC Pandey”, “Solve Manipur University crisis”.
