Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 17, 2018: Demanding to hasten investigation over fake encounter cases right activists led by Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families’ Association, Manipur (EEVFAM) today protested in front of the gate of the CBI office at Lamphel.
The demonstrators hold banner embedded “Punish all the culprits who promote state terrorism” and took out a short rally towards the CBI office gate.
President of EEVFAM Renu Takhellambam said, “Why is the state government still supporting Jhalajit? CBI should immediately start investigation against him.”
Akojam Jhalajit, the then additional superintendent of police, Imphal West was allegedly involved in killing Chungkham Sanjit, a former militant, inside a medical store at BT road on July 23, 2009.
The investigation over 1528 fake encounter killing cases has not been taken up successfully till today. Not a single justice has been delivered. The investigation of few cases being taken up by CBI has been delaying, which ridicules the victims, she added.
The complete investigation report should be produced before the court on July 27 Supreme Courts hearing, demanded the activists.
According to the right bodies following Supreme Court order the CBI has so far only 72 cases.
The Supreme Court has ordered an investigation by the CBI and asked it to file a report by mid-May, but the investigation process of the CBI is very slow, said Renu.
