Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 26, 2018: Kanglei Indigenous Martial Arts and Cultural Society (KIMACS) and cultural bodies today agitated at education (S) department protesting against government’s failure to respond for creation of posts for Thang-Ta lecturers.
The agitators prohibited receiving of application forms for teachers’ post at the department.
The cultural society denounced avoidance of Thang-Ta teacher aspirants in the notification for recruitment of 688 secondary school teachers.
The association demanded to immediately discontinue issuing of application forms for the 688 posts.
“We have submitted memorandums several times to the government and we have served ultimatum to the government. The government fails to respond to our demand. This is our first agitation,” said Saikhom Shanta, general secretary, KIMACS.
We have warned to stop recruitment process. As the department continues to receive application forms we take this agitation, he added.
Thang-Ta is included as an additional subject in Class IX to XII. As there are no teachers in schools KIMACS voluntarily teaches the students in schools. Thang-Ta is a traditional education which is inseparable from the people of Manipur. The state government fails to understand the value of Thang-Ta and avoids it, said Shanta .
We will take up different forms of agitations until our demand is fulfilled, he added.
The last date of submission of application for the teachers’ posts falls tomorrow.
Police dispersed the agitators from the department premises.
