Lady apprehended with Rs 1.29 crore worth drug

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, July 28, 2018: Tengnoupal Battalion of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) yesterday seized a huge cache of contraband drugs, worth Rs 1.29 crores in International market on Imphal – Moreh National Highway (NH 102) of Manipur.

A press statement released by Assam Rifles said a Eeco Van was intercepted at Permanent Vehicle Check Post, Khudengthabi, Tengnoupal district by a team of Tengnoupal Battalion. During the search the security personnel found approximately 258 gm of concealed drugs in the vehicle. The passenger was taken into custody by Assam Rifles.

The seized items and the apprehendee were handed over to Moreh Police station. The socio-political and economic ramifications of the ongoing illegal drug trade are a major cause of concern for the state of Manipur which is the Gateway of India to Southeast Asia. Assam Rifles rightly christened as the ‘Sentinels of Northeast’ have launched a crusade against the illicit drug smuggling in Manipur. In the past one year contraband drugs worth Rs 69.46 crores approximately have been seized by 26 Sector Assam Rifles, said the release.
