Gold biscuits heading to Kolkata seized


Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 4, 2018: Customs Division Imphal today apprehended two non-local gold smugglers with eight gold-bars of foreign origin.

They were identified as Amit Kumar Verma, 40, son of Ramesh Kumar Verma resident of Jaganath, Suri Lane, Mandroja road, Bhagalpur, Jagdishpur, Bihar and Rajat Soni, 26, son of Misra Lai Soni, resident of 55 Netaji Subhas Road, Rishra Hoogly.

They were apprehended from Waheng Leikai Jiribam taxi parking, Imphal West. The gold biscuits were recovered from their rectums (four each).

R.K Darendrajit, assistant commissioner said the gold biscuits were to be smuggled from Imphal to Silchar and further to Kolkata.

The value of the seized gold would be Rs 39, 53, 456, said Darendrajit in a press statement.
