Steering down strike paralyses Imphal

Pothashang News Service: Imphal, August 16, 2018: Imphal remained paralysed today with roads wearing a deserted look as passenger vehicle drivers took up ‘steering-wheel down strike’ as imposed by eight civil society organisations in association with Joint Administrative Council of All Manipur Under 5 Ton Passenger Services Association in Imphal city and adjoining areas to protest against possible extension of Article 371 (A) to Manipur as a result of the Naga Framework Agreement.

The protest started at 8 am and continued till 4 pm. It has affected educational institution and business establishments in Imphal.

People in different parts of Imphal staged sit-in demonstration while the drivers stay away from their daily service.

Oinam Binalata, a woman protestor at Nganappi Thong, Imphal said, “Naga peace talk should not break Manipur, Article 371 (A) should not be extended to Manipur, communal governance should not be introduced in Manipur, we are strongly against India government’s attempt to divide Manipur.”

Drivers also staged sit-in demonstration in different junctions of the Manipur city raising their voice that the framework agreement should not divide people and region on community line.

On the same note the joint committee of   joint committee of All Manipur United Clubs Organisation, Committee of Civil Societies Kangleipak and United Committee Manipur organised torch-lit rallies in different parts of valley districts including Imphal yesterday evening.
